A Psalm of Arrival 1

A Song of Arrival, #1

Ah, sweet Earth

I have come for you

Womb World Earth

Above your shimmering air

I sing to you

For already am I in love,

In love with you stretched out watery warm blue beneath me

I laugh a little too much

I am giddy for the delight of you who pulled me through so much space

my tears catch the light of your yellowy mild sun

As her light flames across your face, oh Earth,

And parting the breath of your life in its swirls and maskings of blue and white

A young woman you are, Earth

Whose green eyes invite my life

To touch your brown belly of soil

And I cup you in my hands, descending

From Home I have bent the light

I have sung to the stars

And wrestled with Goddess,

Whose body have I caressed,

Yea, pushed

To make the journey

To you, Earth

where the stars stretch out a different pattern

where worshippers are ready

Ready for Goddess

Ready to play in the cosmos

A Psalm of Civilization 1

Star Psalm.  A Psalm of Civilization 1

The stars do sing!

Gather ye together, oh people, and listen

Listen!

Stars which have sung the dreams of God

Of a slow and dawning tenderness

Cradling the many worlds

Behold ye, oh humanity!

And have you numbered your purpose in the universe?

Have you consulted with the Earth?

Have you gazed up to see your meaning written amid the skyswept sparkling

Of the billion galaxies?

Amid your wars, poverty, and disease

You will never know the numbering of purpose

For who, seeking life, looks to death?

Who, seeking reason, looks to contradiction?

Who, seeking vision, looks away and not toward?

Hear ye, you people

Intelligence before the surging vastness of All Things

Hear the brightful babblings of the rain-fed brook

Feel summer velvet air on some moonless night

Watch your children hoe the peppers, and

Always always

Know and touch with thought

Your gentle primate heart

And notice, only creature, notice!

Benevolence widen to embrace the Universe

Kindness become the cloth of creation

Playing With The World: How We Feel Worthwhile

My son Matthew and I are both what are called ‘artistic personalities.’  This is one of those labels that’s like a rug; you sweep a lot of dirt under the nice pattern.  Anyway, if you remember any high school chemistry, you’ll remember that sometimes when you combine two substances, you can make fire, explosions.  Well, combining artistic personalities in one family, as is the case with Mattie and I, can recreate that high school chemistry experience.

Terratheism: Looking at God and Evolution, and Science and Religion, in a New Way

Today I want to share with all of you some of my own religious views, which I call terratheism.  This religion will argue that matter is not dead and passive, but alive and full of feeling.  This religion will suggest that science discovers the facts for our religious inspiration, but it will also argue that religion tells science what, in general, a fact is.  This religion will accept Darwin’s theory of evolution as true as any scientific theory can be.  But this new religion will teach that, without God,  Darwin’s theory of evolution cannot fully explain biological life.
